Charter Band is run by a dedicated permanent team, all volunteers.
Simon Stephens - Director of Music
Simon started playing trumpet in 1982 and joined Charter band in 1984 as a musician. By the early 1990s he was conducting regularly, travelling up from Bristol, where he was then a student, to take weekly rehearsals. Simon is now a teacher in Hereford but continues to direct the band at nearly all rehearsals and performances.
Claire Kear - Deputy Conductor
Claire, a talented saxophonist and flautist, joined the band while still at school. In 1997, while she was still a pupil at St. Peter's High School, Charter Band was delighted to perform a number of Claire's compositions in a concert dedicated to her as composer and soloist. Since then, Claire has acted as the Deputy Conductor of the band.
